The under 11′s travelled to Highworth Juniors this weekend in the 1st round of the league Cup.

After suffering a first round exit last year the boys were keen on progressing through to at least the second round this year. The team dominated the game from the start and were two goals up early on with both Ryan and Josh managing to hit the target. Although Highworth were on the back foot they did manage to create a couple of chances and Fraser was required to make a smart save and also had to rush out of his area to force the attacker wide when through on goal.

Basset continued to press forward and created opportunities almost at will, the goals being shared around between Nick, Jack and Daniel 2, who as the season has been progressing has been becoming more and more influential in midfield. We will not say anything about the three others goals that were disallowed for offside!! Highworth were pleased to hear the half time whistle being only 6 nil down.

The second half saw some positional changes, but Bassett continued to press on for more goals. Josh opened the scoring in the second half with a fine solo run down the left hand side and Nick added 2 more goals to complete a fine hat trick, more positional changes were made with Grant being pushed up to centre forward and it was he who completed the scoring, coolly slotting the ball into the corner of the net from the edge of the area.

With the game now over, some sloppy defending saw Bassett gift Highworth a consolation goal. And we wont say anything about the two goals that were disallowed in the half either !!! The game ended with Bassett finishing the stronger.

An excellent effort from all the boys, who know they will have to set up a gear or two if they are to beat Ferndale next week - one of their main rivals for the league this year.
