First ever win over Ferndale Rodbourne

History was made today with the first ever win over Ferndale with this team from under 8 level. Playing in the worst conditions of the season so far, Bassett started well controlling the game against the gale force winds and rain, short passing and using the wings Bassett were always a threat and had a few good chances on goal, Ferndale playing with the wind were unable to take advantage with attack after attack being snuffed out in the midfield by Dom Musto and Rob Curtis and any long balls that got through were confidently dealt with by Marc Lowther and Adam Blakeman. Jason Hudson making 2 good saves from short-range shots. At the change round now playing with the wind Bassett still played patiently with some good build up work and were unlucky not to get on the score sheet sooner, still trying to play the wide game down the wings Bassett ground down the Ferndale defence and forced several errors but the elusive goal did not come. A couple of long range shots forced the Ferndale keeper to mishandle but the players following up were unable to benefit.

With both sides cancelling one another out a draw looked likely, until some persistent tackling from Seb Davies on the left saw him rob the ball and head towards goal cutting in at a 45 degree angle into the box, he was closed down by 2 Ferndale defenders after stepping inside them both unleashed his shot (whilst slipping over) and the ball ended up in the net via the underside of the bar. 1 nil to Bassett. With only a few minutes left some good defending sealed the victory.
