A good all-round team performance

An excellent team performance with some entertaining football from both sides, Bassett followed on from a strong performance last time out and were quickly into the game with Dan Wernham going close early on, on a couple of occasions. A strong back 4 of Garry Cannell in his first league appearance, Marc Lowther, Ben Turner and Rich Barratt were determined not to let Brunel into the game and snuffed out all their early attacks.

Unfortunately Brunel managed to score from an uncleared corner, undeterred Bassett went forward with some good football from the Midfield duo of Dom Musto and Chris Mochan who was ever threatening when on the ball.it wasn't long before Dan Wernham put Bassett on the score sheet with some great tenacity to slot the ball into the net, shortly after, Dan Lewis put Bassett 2-1 up after a great nod down by Dan Wernham, once again Brunel scored just before half time with a well-taken free kick, which Bassett failed to clear.

Into the second half Bassett again commanded the game but couldn't put the ball into the danger area, Brunel snatched the initiative and went 3-2 up, changes were made with Chis Mochan and Tom Walkley (the deadly duo from seasons past) joining up again in attack and Dan Wernham slotting back into Midfield, Nathan Smith came on to replace Rich Barratt. Soon after, Dan Lewis swooped on to a through ball and took it round the keeper to score his second. 3-3. Some uncharacteristically poor play let Brunel in to score their fourth. Jack Pennie replaced Dan Lewis with 15 minutes to go, some strong play in midfield and a through ball by Tom Walkley put Chris Mochan on the score sheet to make the score 4 all. A couple of minutes later some magic footwork in the box and a lethal left foot shot from Jack Pennie put Basset into the lead. Not content with sitting back on the 1 goal lead Bassett kept pushing forward some times leaving themselves short handed at the back but the pressure paid off with some fine play by Jack Pennie putting Chris Mochan through to score his second and Bassett's sixth.

A good all round team performance and well-deserved 3 points.
