Best performance of the season so far

The best performance of the season so far, with everyone playing for their shirt. Bassett started strongly against a blustery wind, which hampered any high balls. Good passing and a strong midfield presence with Dom Musto and Ben Turner ensured that Bassett controlled the game for most of the first half. It was only a long ball carried on the wind that allowed Robins striker to score on one of their very few visits to the Bassett half. Undeterred Bassett pressed on with some superb interplay and released Dan Lewis to strike the ball into the Robins net. 1 – 1. Dan Wernham came close on several occasions, hitting the bar after a strong run from midfield and lobbing the goalkeeper and at least 4 shots just going wide of the sticks but again managed to hit the target to make it 2 – 1 at Half time although it could have been at least 6.

Playing with the wind second half Bassett once again controlled the game with some strong midfield play, replacing Ben Turner, Kyle Brooks playing his first game for Bassett made his presence felt with some dominant headers and no nonsense tackling. A long ball from Jason Hudson gave Tom Walkley a chance to run through the Robins defence control the ball and lob the ball over the advancing Robins keeper to make it 3 – 1. For the next quarter of the game it became a shooting exercise with the Robins keeper making some good saves from those shots on target, the rest going agonisingly wide from Dom Musto, Dan Wernham, Kyle Brooks, Chris Potter now on for Tom Walkley and a couple of headed chances from Curtis Whaymand. Robins played some good football and managed to get another goal back with some good play down the right. Pressure once again was put on the Robins goal and Bassett scored a deserved 4th from Seb Davies shooting low and hard into the corner of the net after a sharp run in from the right. In the dying minutes Robins grabbed another goal to make the final score 4 – 3.

Special mention to all the team, but outstanding on his come back from injury was Dan Wernham, who could have scored 6 but never gave up, the team is starting to gel!
