Another good performance but two late goals finally sink Bassett

The best performance of the season so far, I said that last week! We are certainly getting better, what a game! Bassett went into this game with a passion and scored the fastest goal of the season with Chris Mochan linking onto a high ball through the middle, smart control round the keeper and slotting into the net in less than 45 seconds. Kyle Brooks put a storming header just wide inside 2 minutes and Chris Mochan again just wide with only 10 minutes of the game gone. We could have buried Shaw there and then; these misses were to prove costly at the end. Bassett dominated in all areas with Jason Hudson pulling off some top-drawer saves only seen on the premiership, to keep us in the game. Unfortunately the pressure didn't produce the goals as it should have done with several near misses from Kyle, Tom Walkley, Chris Mochan and Dan Wernham again all outstanding in attack. Bassetts defence stood strong and firm with Ben Turner, Marc Lowther, Danny Dhillon and sweeper Adam Blakeman determined to snuff out any attack.

Shaw were lucky to equalise with a half saved shot just rolling into the goal. This spurred Bassett on and once again a ghostly move in from the left and with a missile of a shot Curtis Whaymand made it 2-1 a just desert. With half time approaching a miscued clearance sent the ball slicing into our own goal with Jason only able to watch it fly over his head. (No names mentioned eh Adam) half time 2-2.

The second half started as the first and Chris Mochan took a ball through the defence and coolly lobbed the stranded Shaw keeper and made it 3-2, by this time Shaw were rocked, they consolidated and threw everyone forward, only for yet another tragedy the ball ended up in our net off a Bassett player unlucky Dan Lewis! The score was now 3-3 and Bassett had scored 5 of them, Doh. Then the turning point of the match a Shaw free kick 20 yards out an attacker in an offside position in the playing zone, ball in back of net linesman flagging, referee ignoring 4-3 to Shaw. No heads dropped, we could still do it but as Bassett went forward looking for the equaliser we were left short at the back and 2 late Shaw goals made it 6-3 but the moral victory was ours. Shaw visibly shaken are not looking forward to the trip to Ballards Ash the home of Bassett.
