Bassett grab second win on the bounce

From the Evening Advertiser, Monday 5th April 2004

Wootton Bassett made it three wins from their last four games when they defeated visitors Bicester Town 2-0 to ease their relegation fears.

Barry Giles, standing in for manager Pete Yeardley, was delighted with the performance.

He said: "It was a real workmanlike display. We got a first-half goal and defended it well with Rob Hopkins, Paul Patel and keeper Ian Gill outstanding.

"It was a good all-round team performance and will give the lads confidence for their midweek game at Gloucester."

John Magani put Bassett ahead on 33 minutes and they were content to defend their lead until the break.

Bicester pushed forward more after the interval and put the home side under strong pressure.

But with five minutes remaining Bassett snatched a second from Geoff Swatton to settle the nerves and ensure his side a well-earned and valuable three points.
