Disappointment in Cup as Bassett twice throw away the lead

Bassett were extremely disappointed having lost this cup tie after twice being in front in the match.

The game was quick but scrappy with both teams not being able to hold onto the ball for too long. A goalless first half but Bassett scored early in the second half when a cross from Harry Sandu was put into his own goal by the Fairford defender. Fairford equalised from a set piece when the headed clearance was picked up on the edge of the box and fired into the goal unchallenged. Extra time came and just before the half time a long clearance left the Fairford defence hesitant and Harry Sandu ran on and headed the ball over the 6 foot 6 keeper and into the net. But this was not the end of the action and again from a set piece, a flick on from a Fairford player went kindly to another and was tapped in from close range. The winner came with only a few minutes left when a speculative, overhit cross - A LA RONALDINHO - whatever you want to call it but it wasn't a shot - went over Jason's head in goal and into the net to the hysteria of the away team. Bassett could have levelled it right at the death but skipper Steve Howse managed to plant the ball unchallenged into the Prince Of Wales car park when faced with an empty net six yards out.
