Comfortable win for Bassett

Our first home game at Ballards Ash, on a very sunny but cold and windy Sunday morning. The ground was rock hard, with cracks appearing, just like in the middle of summer. This proved to be a real concern as both sides had multiple knee and leg injuries/cuts, mainly from trips and falls.

From the kick off, we played into a fierce, cold wind, and although we dominated the game, never really had much success in front of goal. There was some good passing play and build up, but we didn't get many shots on target, and shooting from distance was difficult

The start of the second half saw the flood gates open with three goals in as many minutes. Bassett pushed forward in number and took advantage of the wind. Two goals from Dominic Gordon and one from Jake Gosling opened the scoring and soon after James French made it 4 - 0, all good quality goals from some excellent passing and team play.

We decided to move players around to give them a chance at playing in different positions, as we would have learnt nothing from a whitewash. Two more goals from Dominic Gordon and Jake Gosling sealed the game, but there was so many chances to score, it should have been about 12-0. Credit to Shrivenham who battled on to the end, but they simply did not pass the ball, mark any players, or have any desire to win. Some really good passing and movement, and we really played for one another. Excellent performances from Jake Gosling. James Stansall, Oliver Stevens, Dominic Gordon and James French.

Next week away to a strong Stratton Cirencester, and the week after our final league game of the season at home to local rivals Purton.
