Abbey Meads

The Under 13s faced FC Abbey Meads Blue at home on Saturday, looking to get a win ahead of a league cup semi-final against the same opposition next week.

The girls got off to a great start, passing the ball around well and creating dangerous attacks.

Bassett came close to scoring several times, with Emily Gower and Chloe Guppy coming close to firing the ball home. However, the Blues just couldn't get the ball in the net.

The home side found themselves one down after letting in an unlucky goal. Keeper Ella Oates cleared the ball, which unfortunately bounced off a Bassett defender, falling into the path of an Abbey Meads player, who finished.

The girls lost some of their momentum after that. The away side grew in confidence and attempted a long-range strike that unfortunately bounced over Ella's head to gift Abbey Meads their second.

The girls went into half time 2-0 down, although they had clearly been the better side and were unlucky to not have found the back of the net.

The Blues continued to dominate in the second half, with the ball mainly in their attacking half. The girls didn't give up and kept looking to score and get themselves back into the game. Unfortunately, it was Abbey Meads that scored a third and sealed off a three-nil win with their first and only shot of the second half.

However, the scoreline doesn't reflect the game as Bassett were the better side for most of the game but just lacked that final finish.

Player of the match went to Olivia Cooper and Chloe Guppy for outstanding defensive performances.
