Chippenham test

The Under 13s had a tough test at home to a strong FC Chippenham Blue Devils side at the weekend.

Bassett were looking to bag three points and move up to second in the table.

Unfortunately, the game didn't get off to the best start, as seconds in the Blues lost Ava Merwood-Palmer to injury. However, Kacy Gower stepped up in her place and battled hard.

Both teams were looking evenly matched, but Bassett had the edge in attack. The well-deserved breakthrough eventually came to the home side through Maddie Gay.

Aamira Sakiru placed a great ball overhead down the right side of the field for Christina Croft to pounce on. She drove down the right and cut the ball back for Maddie to slot home neatly at the back post.

The girls held on to keep the scoreline at 1-0 until the break.

However, they knew they would have to score a second to seal a win.

Chippenham, however, were also pushing for an equaliser. After a scramble at the edge of the box, the away side managed to bring the score level with a rather scrappy goal.

Bassett suddenly switched on and began playing some great football. Hollie Peachey and Christina saw their shots sail just wide and Maddie came close to scoring a brace.

Unfortunately, this wasn't enough and the game finished 1-1.

Player of the match was Hollie, who had one of her best games all season. She didn't stop working hard all game, and showed great composure on the ball.
