Defeat

The Under 13 faced a tough test at home to Division One leaders Blunsdon, who hadn't dropped a point all season, in a battle of 1st vs 2nd place.

Bassett got off to a great start, matching Blunsdon like for like. The Blues put relentless pressure on the away side's defence until their hard work paid off. Christina Croft pounced on a goal kick and tucked the ball away with ease for 1-0.

However, the girls' lead didn't last long as minutes later Blunsdon broke through and scored an equaliser.

The away side didn't stop there and claimed a second with a powerful header that Bassett could do nothing about.

Blunsdon started attacking more and more after this, so Tia Campbell was pushed up into midfield to try and get the Blues back in the game, where she made an instant impact.

With five minutes left of the first half to play, Tia stepped up with a fantastic long-range strike that sailed into the roof of the net. The girls went into the break with the score at two apiece.

The second half was tougher, and the girls began to tire. They struggled to hold on to their previous momentum and also suffered the loss of keeper Ella, who fell ill. Tia stepped up instead to go between the sticks and made some brilliant saves.

Unfortunately, Blunsdon bagged a late winner through some good football. After that, things fell apart for Bassett and they conceded two more.

The game finished 5-2, but the girls should be proud of themselves as they are the only team to put any goals past Blunsdon so far this season.

Player of the Match went to Christina who was relentless all game, scoring a great opening goal and putting in lots of effort in both defence and attack.
