Spackman inspired comeback stings Bees

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development made it four wins in a row as they came from behind to defeat reigning Wiltshire League Premier Division champions Trowbridge Town.

A Spackman-brothers inspired comeback helped Bassett to victory as Max and Ben registered to turn a 1-0 half time deficit into a 2-1 lead.

The gane started well for visitors Trowbridge. Jack Miluk, who had scored a hat-trick last week, gave them an early lead with a tap in at the back post following good work from Adam Mitchell.

It remained 1-0 at the break as the visitors defended well, while also creating chances of their own.

However, whatever Bassett manager Mark Simpkins said to his players at half time it certainly fired them up and the home side came out for the second half and completely turned the game around.

Max Spackman equalised ten minutes after the restart as he headed home.

Brother Ben then put Bassett in front with a close range finish midway through the second period.

A goalline clearance saw Trowbridge denied a equaliser before, with eight minutes to go, Afonso Ferreira rounded off a swift counter to make it 3-1 Bassett.

George Bendle pulled one back five minutes from the end for the visitors with a powerful drive from thirty yards but there was to be no equaliser for Trowbridge as they fell to their fourth defeat of the season, losing further ground on the leading sides as their title defence continued to falter. They have already lost twice as many games as they did the whole of last season and any promotion ambitions for this season are starting to look somewhat shaky with the likes of Kintbury Rangers, Amesbury Town and Larkhall Athletic Development going so well.

Bassett, meanwhile, maintain their impressive run. Although remaining in fourth spot, the win saw them open up a four point gap over Melksham Town Reserves who hold just a single game in hand.
