Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development slipped to a disappointing 4-2 defeat away at Pewsey Vale.

Pewsey had lost only their second game of the season in midweek and were keen to bounce back to maintain their title challenge when they entertained Bassett at the Recreation Ground.

Two seasons ago the two sides had been involved in a titanic title race which had seen Bassett effectively claim the title with a narrow win at Pewsey. However there was to be no repeat of that earlier triumph.

Pewsey led 2-1 at the break thanks to goals from James Guthrie and Jude Cawley, with Kevin Lartey replying for Bassett.

Further goals in the second half from Matt James and Andy Rossiter put Pewsey 4-1 up before a late second from Nick Mason for the visitors reduced the deficit, though served only as a consolation.

The win saw Pewsey move to within a point of Kintbury Rangers and three points of the new leaders Amesbury Town, with a game in hand to play over both. Bassett, meanwhile, remain in fifth spot.
