Under 18s Defeat Bishops Cannings

Royal Wootton Bassett Town are looking the most likely challenger to Kintbury Rangers for the Wiltshire League Floodlit Division title, and they were involved in the top match of the week when they met Bishops Cannings at Green Lane on Friday night.

Bishops Cannings are substantially made up of last season's championship winning Devizes Town side, and it had been Bassett and Devizes who had battled it out for the title last season and were both expected to do well again this campaign.

Mainly due to County Cup games, Bishops Cannings are slightly behind with their fixtures but with a 3G pitch are not going to suffer postponements when the wet weather kicks in. And on Friday night they were looking to make up ground on the top three. However, things did not go to plan as two goals from Joe Beavis put Bassett in the driving seat, and although Bishops Cannings were able to pull one back through Caleb Hollow there was to be no equaliser.

Bassett this secured a 2-1 win to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. They closed the gap at the top to Kintbury to seven points with two games in hand as well, moving above Calne Town into second spot in the table.
