Bassett go down to 1-0 defeat in a good game of football

It was a tight affair at the Gerard Buxton between Royal Wootton Bassett Town Dev and Shrewton United who were both looking for their fourth win of the season. Matty Bennett went close to breaking the deadlock for the home side on 15 minutes but Shrewton keeper Reece Knowles pulled off a fine save from Bennett's powerful shot. On the half hour mark Shrewton had a strong appeal for a penalty for handball but the decision did not go their way. A couple of chances just before the break for both sides, firstly Knowles pulled off another great save to deny Charlie Evatt, whilst at the other end Adam House in the Bassett goal saved well from a free kick from Conor Cutler to leave it goal less at the break. The deadlock was broken immediately after the interval when captain Steven Holvey created space for himself in the box from a free kick and headed powerfully into the net to put Shrewton in front. The closest the home side came to getting an equaliser was when Matty Bennett hit the post on 66 minutes. Saul Johnson went close at the other end with a shot minutes later but there was to be no further goals as Shrewton ran out 1-0 winners in a good game of football.
