Bassett win a fine match at Braden Forest School

A wet and windy Braden Forest School produced a fine match between two fairly even teams. The pitch resembled a ploughed field but this aside both teams produced some very good skilful football.

Westbrook took the lead 5 minutes into the game with a well taken goal, the next 40 minutes belonged to Bassett who produced some stunning football considering the conditions. The first Bassett goal was created by Tom Walkley who produced a sharp diagonal cross towards the advancing Dan Wernham, however the ball was intercepted by the Westbrook captain who unfortunately turned the ball past his wrong footed keeper 1-1 Bassett continued pushing forward and two accurate through balls to Tom Walkley saw him slot the ball past the advancing keeper twice 1-3 The Bassett midfield controlled the ball well in the conditions and yet another through ball by Dom Musto to Dan Wernham saw him fire the ball into the net from 12 yards out 1-4 at half time.

Westbrook started the second half as they started the first and scored within 5 minutes 2-4. The pressure was now on as Westbrook were in the ascendancy. Bassett tried to control the game but in worsening conditions were unable to convert the pressure with Dan Wernham and Tom Walkley both going close, and shots from Clive Mcdaid and Mike Yates both being saved well by the keeper, but the breakthrough came with 15 minutes to go when a clever one two between Tom Walkley and Danny Dhillon split the defence and Danny Dhillon drove home the ball into the bottom corner past the outstretched Westbrook keeper.

With 5 minutes to go Westbrook scored a deserved consolation goal. Final score 3-5
