Ruthless Under 14 Blues hunt down Crocodiles on return

Wednesday 9th December 2020

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 14 Blue were ruthless in their return from lockdown, recording a 9-1 home victory against Westbury Youth Crocodiles in the Wiltshire FA County Cup first round. Goals from Beau Hicks (3), Finlay Hyde (3), Ed Greenouff, Charlie Griffiths and Caden Jefferies added to an already impressive goal count for the team this season, which now stands at 37.

Elsewhere, it was a slow return to competitive football for Bassett's teams.

The Under 18s fell to a defeat on return to North Wilts League Division One action. A 6-1 loss at Castle Coombs Colts leaves them in fourth position after seven games. Back-to-back defeats against Castle Coombe has led to a fall in the table, but the Under 18s will be hoping to bounce back next weekend away to Blunsdon, who sit third, four points above Bassett.

The Under 14 Yellows were denied their first points of the season after a 3-1 away loss at the hands of Highworth Town Juniors H. Edie Sophia Harris came up with a good goal for her team, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to claim their first point of the season. Next weekend the Yellow are at home to Lydiard Millicent Juniors.

Lydiard Youth just edged past the Under 13 Blues, who were unlucky to fall to a 2-1 loss. A good performance from the Blues and a goal from Leon Hudson was not enough to avoid defeat, and the team may feel hard done by after the result. Next week they face an away trip to Marlborough Youth.

The Under 12 Yellows also narrowly lost, falling 1-0 away to Blunsdon. After a good start to the season, the Yellows battled hard after the restart, but could not avoid an agonising 1-0 result. After ten games, they sit eighth with nine points.

The Under 16 Blues fell victim to a 3-0 away defeat at the hands of Childrey. Childrey were a team on a great run of form, picking up 12 points from before lockdown. An extension to their perfect start unfortunately leaves Bassett sixth in Division Two. Next week the Blues face Ferndale Rodbourne YCFC who sit fourth with 14 points.

The Under 16 Yellows could not continue their good form after the lockdown break, with a 1-0 defeat away to FC Calne Hurricanes after a very hard fought game. Bassett were unlucky to pick up a point after battling hard. The result sees the team sit fourth in Division Three after eight games.

Finally, the Under 15 Blues were unfortunately beaten in a thrilling affair against Durrington Lions. Finley Smith (2), and Samuel Bounds scored good goals for Bassett, but these goals could not stop a 5-3 loss away from home. However, it was still a fantastic restart from Bassett in front of goal. The result leaves them in fifth position in Division Two with two or three games in hand against those higher in the table. The Blues have a diversion from league action next when they welcome Lydiard Youth Hammers in the Wiltshire FA County Cup second round.
