Weekend preview: Women aim to jump above Tigers

Tuesday 27th October 2026

The second part of a home doubleheader this weekend sees sixth place Royal Wootton Bassett Town welcome fifth place Gloucester City on Sunday in, what for the hosts, is an important South West Regional Women's Football League Premier Division encounter.

Having edged out Gloucester 2-1 when they met in the Women's FA Cup, Bassett will be looking for a second home win of the campaign against the Tigers - a result that would take them above their opponents in the table with two games in hand still to play.

Victory will also keep Bassett in touch with the sides above Gloucester, who have all played at least a game more.

It's been three weeks since Bassett last kicked a ball in anger, with James Lally's side frustrated at last week's postponement. But they will be fired up and ready for their encounter with Gloucester.

Kick off on Sunday is 2pm at the Swindon Mercedes Stadium (Gerard Buxton Sports Ground).

Admission is £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members.

Prior to that Saturday sees the Men's First Team face an extremely tough test away against Hellenic League Premier Division leaders - and title favourites - Roman Glass St George (3pm kick off).

Winless in their last four league games, it's probably not the opponent Bassett will have wanted to face as they seek to break their slump. But, as underdogs, the game offers something of a free hit with the pressure on Roman Glass not to slip up in their quest to stretch their healthy ten point lead at the top.

Also on Saturday the Development team are in home action as entertain reigning Wiltshire League Premier Division champions Shrewton United at the Swindon Mercedes Stadium (3pm kick off).

Josh Connolly's side have won two in a row - and will be looking to extend that mini run in what is set to be a tough test against dangerous opponents who currently sit sixth and boast the division's second most potent attack.

Admission on Saturday is £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members.
