Purton win

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 16 Girls recorded their first ever win against rivals Purton on Saturday, despite cold and windy conditions.

The girls made a good start, pressing well and not giving their opponents any time on the ball.

Bassett created plenty of chances and eventually got a well-deserved goal, with Poppy crossing the ball to Robyn Jayne Spencer, who volleyed it over the keeper.

The Blues kept Purton out well with some solid defending, and keeper Mia, who was captaining the side for the day, made some outstanding saves to keep Bassett ahead.

Unfortunately, Purton managed to get a goal back before half time due to a strong gust of wind that made it difficult for the girls to take control of the ball.

Both teams went into the second half with the score level, hoping to gain the lead, but Bassett looked on top.

In the 70th minute, the girls started linking up well in midfield. The ball was slid into the box for Daisy to run onto but her shot was saved by the keeper. However, Eliza Ellis was in hand to fire home the rebound.

2-1 to Bassett!

With five minutes to go, Purton were awarded a penalty, but missed, which was a great relief for the Blues.

Bassett held on to win, with keeper Mia getting player of the match for a great performance in goal.

Well done to all the girls for a historic win!
