Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 16 Girls recorded their first win of the North Wilts League season on Saturday, beating Melksham Town Lionesses 4-3.

From the first minute, the girls were on top, the strikers pressing high up, giving Melksham no time on the ball. The Blues kept their shape well and the defenders were disciplined and solid.

After ten minutes Maisie did some great work down the right side. She fed the ball to Tilly, who looped a great ball over the keeper, which resulted in Daisy Bundy placing the ball into the net, making the score 1-0 to Bassett.

Not long after, some lovely passing between the girls gave Eliza Ellis the opportunity to drive into the box using her power and pace, and she slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.

After that, the goals just kept coming. The girls grabbed their third after Robyn Spencer volleyed the ball over the keeper at the end of a great cross.

Melksham managed to grab a goal back before half time but the score at the break was 3-1 to Bassett.

The second half was much the same, with Bassett creating chance after chance. Robyn scored yet another volley at the end of a long-range free kick.

With the game going well, the girls relaxed and lost their shape a little. Melksham got two late goals back, but Bassett held strong and managed to hold on until the final whistle with the game finishing 4-3 to the Blues.

Player of the match went to Poppy, with a shout out to Hattie - both were excellent. Well done girls, keep up the good work.
