Cup hopes dealt a blow

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 18s' hopes of advancing in the Wiltshire League Floodlit Division Cup were dealt a blow after a 3-1 home defeat against AFC Aldermaston in their third group fixture.

After falling behind early on, Euan Spackman's expertly controlled first time finish brought Bassett level five minutes before the interval.

However, the visitors restored their lead midway through the second period thanks to a stunning long range finish before capitalising on a goalkeeper error late on to put the result beyond doubt.

The result leaves Bassett with four points from their opening three games. While holding a game in hand over both teams, they trail Aldermaston by five points and second place Calne Town by three points.

Bassett's hopesof progressing to the final now therefore depend on them winning all three of their remaining matches.
