Development team lose unbeaten record in top of the table clash

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development lost their unbeaten record in the Wiltshire League - and slipped from top spot - as they fell to a 3-1 home defeat in their clash against fellow pacesetters Pewsey Vale.

The sides started the day separated only by goal difference, albeit with Pewsey having played a game more. However, the visitors made sure that Bassett will now only pull level if they win their game in hand.

Bassett started the afternoon well and took the lead on the quarter hour mark as Tyler Sheppard stroked home from the penalty spot.

By half time, however, Pewsey were in front courtesy of a pair of goals scored in the space of five minutes.

They were on level terms when the experienced Ryan Banks bundled home from close range after Bassett failed to clear from a corner.

Harry Hoareau then reacted quickest to steer in a low left wing cross to make it 2-1.

Pewsey then controlled affairs following the restart and extended their advantage when James Guthrie scored from the spot after Bassett 'keeper Simon Notman was guilty of a foul on Banks.
