11 Mar 2012 - Stratton Juniors Tigers (A)

Well the Referee we had today was extremely professional. Both teams had to line up and have their studs checked as well as checking that each player was wearing shin pads!!!

1st Half

We started strongly in this half, really on the attack. When the ball did go up to the opposition's half, Sid was on hand to boot the ball back. It was one of those kicks that led to the 1st goal – Sid had booted the ball down past the halfway line, and Lewis turned and kicked it into goal – fab!!!! A comment from the sidelines was that the boys were more confident now than a few weeks ago, having said that we were then put under pressure by Stratton. Dylan played well in his midfield position. Dec had a good run down towards goal and then Callum had a shot at goal which was unfortunately saved by their keeper.

2nd Half

Declan went into goal in the 2nd half – (he had been promised £1 for each goal he scored and 50p for each one he saved – boy am I glad that it was that way round!!) The 2nd half saw the teams more evenly matched. There was some good passing between Sid, Mikey & Tom near the goal. Tom was incredibly unlucky not to get a goal after a fantastic run up the pitch, soon after he had another near miss. There then seemed to be a lot of running up and down the pitch, with each team determined to score another goal. Dec made several good saves. Mikey had a great individual run up the pitch. Sid took a shot at goal, which unfortunately hit the post. Kai had an unlucky miss. The defense team of Nav, James & Josh put up their usual wall – Nav with his calmness, James with great tackling and Josh just kicking the ball out at the right moment.

The game finished 1-0 to Bassett. Credit has to go to both teams, it was a really tight game and our boys battled hard and came out the winners!!
