29 Jan 2012 - Stratton Youth (H)

1st Half

We started off strong; all the team seemed to have a determination about them. There were good passes and strong tackles. The game seemed to be going up & down the pitch without any passes going near to the goal, until Stratton put Sid under some pressure, but he saved the goal. Then Tom fought back and got his first well earned goal of the match. After this goal Jeremy was overhead saying it was a “lovely” match, which led the Mums' to believe we were in for a crust less cucumber sandwiches and fairy cakes as a celebration tea!!! Bassett kept up their determination with Michael having a near miss at goal and then Callum got our second goal!! Stratton did then turn the game around and were unlucky when their shot hit the crossbar and went over the goal.

2nd Half

Stratton came back on a very determined team. During this half there were some lovely passes and very good tackles with Bassett playing hard to get another goal. Sid made a lovely left hand save. Then Stratton got their 1st goal and it seemed to give them a lift as they were all over us. We kept playing but we didn't seem to have quite the determination that we had set out with at the start of the match. Stratton then got a 2nd goal and had leveled with us. It did seem to motivate the team to get that winning goal but unfortunately it wasn't to be our day and the game ended as a draw 2-2.

It was good to have Mollie back in defense, she seemed to just get that kick and clear the ball at the right moment. The ref was overhead calling her Hatchet Mollie!!!

There were some unfortunate tackles and missed passes but the play at times was brilliant and we need to concentrate on playing at the top level 100% instead of 80%. Again I need to thank the sideline supporters for their contribution to the writing of this report. Without them it would be a very short report!!
