Wootton Bassett Town Reserves were made to sweat in their clash against bottom of the table Cricklade Town, but a solitary 89th minute goal from George Drewitt secured three more valuable points for Simon Paish's side.

Recent seasons have not been too kind for Bassett's second string, with just two top half finishes in the past decade and a highest finish of sixth in the 2003/04 campaign.

This season, however, has been a different story. Bassett are in the thick of the battle for third spot behind runaway champions Gloucester City 'Development' and Hellenic League debutants Brimscombe and Thrupp.

And victory against local rivals Cricklade ensured Bassett remain in the driving seat for that bronze medal spot.

After a difficult season, Cricklade's form had picked up in recent weeks, with two of their three league victories coming in the past five matches. They proved to be stubborn opposition and it appeared as though the game was headed for a 0-0 draw that would disappoint their hosts.

But in the final minute of regulation time George Drewitt struck his fifth goal of the season to deliver the three points and send his team up from fifth to third in the table.
