Reserves Cruise Past Shrivy

03 Dec 2011 - Shrivenham (A)

Wootton Bassett Town Reserves continued to show why they belong at the top end of the Division Two West table following their comfortable 3-0 victory at Shrivenham in a clash between the league's fourth and fifth best sides.

After their seventh win of the season, Simon Paish's side lie just four points behind current leaders Gloucester City Development; after 13 games they are now just one win short of matching the number of league wins recorded last season.

Bassett took the lead early on at The Recreation Ground, with captain George Drewitt finding the back of the net. The lead was doubled through Matty Buckingham on the half hour mark to put the visitors in a commanding position heading into the break.

Shrivenham rarely threatened throughout the course of the match, and Lee Smith rubbed further salt into the home side's wounds when he made it 3-0 three minutes from time to cap off a fine afternoon.
