Sunday 9th November 2008 - Stratton Juniors 'A' (A)

The wind and rain blew across the Stratton pitch and winning the toss, Bassett chose to use this advantage in the first half. Bassett were quickly into their game and from an early throw-in the ball was not cleared by the Stratton defence and as the ball bobbled lose on the edge of the box, Callum shot the ball just wide of the goal.

Only moments later, a clearance by the Stratton keeper was intercepted by Euan who passed the ball to the unmarked Tyler. Six yards out, first time shot, there was only one outcome. 1-0 Bassett!

On four minutes Bassett scored their second. Another attempted clearance went straight to Tyler whom took instant control of the ball and tucked it away in the Stratton net with ease.

Stratton's first real attack came on 5 minutes when there was a quick break from midfield but Conor came off his line well to make a brave save at the feet of the Stratton forward.

The next 5 minutes saw Stratton try their best to get into the game. On 11 minutes a free kick was conceded on the edge of the Bassett box. Against the wind, the Stratton player hit a beautiful shot which soared into the top corner of the goal.

Bassett responded well and went straight back on the attack. A free kick was gained to the right of the Stratton area. Rather than power, Euan went for placement and his shot unluckily hit the side netting.

On 15 minutes Bassett won a corner. The ball was partially cleared but put back into the Stratton box by Callum, where Jordan met it to hit a sweet shot to make the score 3-1 Bassett.

Two minutes later Bassett were awarded another free kick, this time on the left side of the Stratton box. "Hard and low" came the shout from the Bassett sidelines but instead Euan curled the ball high into the far top corner for his well deserved first goal of the match.

On the next attack the ball was bobbling around in the Stratton area and Ryosuke fired home to make it 5-1. Tyler got his hatrick on the stroke of half time. A cross from the right was not cleared and found Tyler who scored another "poachers" goal by being in the right place at the right time.

Half-time: 1-6

The start of the second half was all Bassett and on 24 minutes, once again a clearance was picked up by Euan who looked up and "passed" the ball back into the Stratton goal from 15 yards.

Three minutes later, Bassett won a corner. A perfect delivery from Euan was met by the head of Harrison to make it 8-1.

On 29 minutes, another corner for Bassett was not cleared and Euan tucked away the loose ball to get his hatrick.

To their credit Stratton did not give up and pressed forward. They gained a free kick which was blocked by the Bassett wall, a long clearance found Tyler by himself up front who carried the ball towards goal and scored with a good low shot.

Soon after, Ryosuke made a run down the left passed the ball to Callum, whose cross was met on the volley by Harrison to make it 11-1.

Stratton's best move of the game was rewarded with their second goal. The Stratton midfield broke down the right and a quick one two saw the Stratton player clear to hit a fine low cross into the Bassett box. The ball was met first time by the Stratton forward to score an excellent, well worked goal.

This fine move was followed by Bassett's best move of the game. A quick throw and pass back saw a long diagonal ball by Jordan reach Harrison on the right hand corner of the Stratton box. Harrison took the ball on the run, went across the Stratton keeper and scored with a low left footed shot.

Match Analysis: An easy victory in tough weather conditions. The wet and sticky pitch meant the long ball was used frequently by Bassett. The strength and pace of the team ensured that a Bassett player was always first to any loose ball.

Player of the Match: Always a tenacious tackler, Harrison has added a great deal of skill to his game this year. With a volley, a header and q left foot shot, Harrison scored 3 excellent goals and is awarded the POTM for the second game running.
