Sunday 14th September 2008 - Wroughton Juniors 'A' (H)

Our first home match of the season saw Wroughton as our visitors and as both teams had started the season with a win a good game was anticipated.

The game was closely contested and the first goal looked like it would be very important to both teams. It was our good fortune that we did get that goal after only 3 minutes, when Euan's corner was deflected into the net by a Wroughton defender.

As the half developed play switched from end to end as both teams passed the ball around very well and it was somewhat against the run of play, when a forceful run from Harrison after 12 minutes ended with his shot being helped over the line by a defender as Euan was waiting to apply the final touch to give us a two goal lead.

Our defence of Lewis, Alanah & Jordan were playing very well and Conor was in good form in goal, when they did get breached which was good to see.

The visitors did get the ball into the net as they finished from close range after a good move to bring the half to an end.

Half Time 2-1

The 2nd half was even more competitive than the first as both teams battled and tackled very well and played some very good football.

We looked good in defence with Jordan and Lewis in particular heading the ball to safety and Conor's handling was always very good.

After a long clearance from Conor was won by Tyler from 2 defenders, he took the ball on and finished into the top corner from just inside the area to restore our 2 goal lead.

Our lead didn't last for long as a mistake lead to Wroughtons 2nd goal and if it hadn't been for a goal line clearance from Ryosuke just afterwards, the match would have been level.

With 5 minutes left we restored our 2 goal lead when Lewis finished off a good passing move and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

It was now a question of whether we could close the game out, which we did do to record another hard earned victory.

Match Analysis: A good performance against a very good team with some very good passing from all of our players.

Player of the Match; Jordan Taylor who put in a commanding performance at the back, with some particularly excellent headed clearances.
