Friday 10th October 2008 - White Horse Juniors (A)

On a lovely October evening our players got the chance to play on the hallowed turf of the main Wootton Bassett Town senior pitch, under floodlights for the first time.

With an enthusiastic crowd watching both teams served up a very competitive game and did the occasion proud.

Bassett started very strongly and went into the lead after 5 minutes, when Harrison got on the end of a low cross and turned the ball into the net from close range.

This in turn made White Horse come out of the blocks and it was no surprise when a well worked corner was diverted past Conor, for a deserved equalizer after 12 minutes.

We then saw a period of end to end football, as both sides went all out for the next goal and it was to be the visitors who went in front from a well placed shot into the bottom corner.

As the half ticked away it looked like we would go in at half time a goal behind. However with a minute till the whistle a well struck shot by Euan was well saved by the goalkeeper, only for the ever alert Tyler to be on hand to turn the ball over the line & his 11th goal of the season.

Half time 2-2

We had our half time team talk and as in the last game our players went out in the second half with a much more determined approach.

The flowing football that we had seen in the previous game vs. Stratton was beginning to evolve. We went back in front 5 minutes into the half when a driving run by Euan was followed by a crisp finish into the bottom corner & he joined Tyler on double figures for the season.

Our defence of Lewis, Alanah & Jordan were looking solid and in midfield Harrison & Callum were having their best games of the season, as we fought for every 2nd ball.

Following a kick out from the White Horse keeper, Ryosuke made a superb header from just inside their half and with the help of a slight deflection it went straight into the net, to give us a two goal advantage with 10 minutes to go.

Would we now be able to close the game out and see off our determined opponents was the question from the coaches on the side lines.

Well the answer to that was down to the skill of the White Horse team, who then took the game to us and got their 3rd goal from close range with a good finish. If it then wasn't for a superb save from Conor, the game would have been level with 5 minutes remaining.

As we all willed the referee to blow the final whistle we got our 5th goal, when Tyler received the ball with his back to goal & in a flash of an eye left two defenders in his wake & smashed the ball into the bottom corner before the goalie moved.

Final Score 5-3

This was by far our toughest game of the season against a very good White Horse team and we had to show a strong resolve & determination to win the match. Our Goalie & defence had to be in fine form throughout & our midfield had to fight for every tackle. It was a very good win which was made even more special by the floodlights & the quality of our opponents.

I've mentioned all of our players in the match analysis but the one player I didn't was Tyler Fitchett, who scored 1 very good poachers goal in the first half & a stunning goal as time was running out. His all round game was very good as he also helped out the midfield in trying to get the ball back & deserved the award.
