Thursday 23 October 2008 - Devizes Town (H)
After a disappointing game last week at home to Highworth, the lads pick themselves up for this rearranged game.
It started off bad conceding a goal in the 7th minute with some poor defending from John Turner who didn't clear the ball, but the lads didn't drop their heads like last week, and started to play football on the floor, with a good move on the left from James Skinner to Lee Smith(making his debut) who took on the Devizes defence, got to the bye line cut it back for Craig Kelly to have a first time shoot for it to be blocked, but for David Bray to get the lose ball and find the back of the net 1-1.
We then dominated the game down the flanks with Smith and Josh Rutley making penetrating runs with good delivers but some good defending from the Devizes defence who were all 6ft and over, the front two did their best to deal with the crosses. It wasn't till the 42nd minute that all our hard work paid off.
A quick throw from Ryan McCarthy to Turner who pushed it through to Rutley who played one twos with Kelly and Nathan Sarahs got to the bye line pulled it back to the edge of the 18 yrd box for Bray to be brought down penalty, Skinner picked the ball up placed it top right hand corner of the net which gave the keeper no chance 2-1.
Half time 2-1
We started the second half were we finished the first, by dominating the play with good play from the back to the front with Matty Buckingham playing well up front making a nuisance off himself with Bray, but it wasn't till the 65 minute when a long range shot from Skinner gave him his second goal of the night and the 3rd for us, 3-1 Devizes got frustrated with us and gave away free kicks to which we could have done better but the lads kept playing football not getting involved, with Smith and Rutley playing well on the flanks, it paid off with a good second half from an unwell Turner passing to Kelly who moved it onto Rutley who then cut inside and hit the ball from 40yrds for it to go straight through every one and the keeper made a mess off it to score his first of the night, 4-1.
Devizes lost their shape and composure and gave away more free kicks, and had one lad given a straight red for a bad challenge.
We finished strong again with one more goal coming in the 85 minute with a good move from McCarthy to Smith into George Drewitt out to Rutley to cross it into Bray for his second goal of the night 5-1.
With 5 minutes left the boys kept the ball well not giving it away and keeping good possession football.
