Tuesday 23rd September 2008 - Bath City (A)

In a nice ground on a nice pitch the lads were nervous but when the whistle went for the start of the game the nerves went from them and they played football from the start, which Bath dint expect with some good work down the flanks from Brian Ferris and Nathan Sarahs the bath defence couldn't cope with their pace we could have taken the lead on 8 minutes with Sarahs hitting over the bar, Bath got on top for a while and played some good football we defended well but gave the ball away to easy at times but to no damage by Bath.

We went close again on the 23 min when a good over lap run from John Turner down the right and good link up play with George Drewitt we came close to scouring from Craig Kelly to which the keeper made a good save down to his right.

With some cat and mouse play from both teams it finished 0-0 at half time.

Started the same way as the first ended but having to make a substitution with Sarahs becoming ill in the first half young Josh Rutley came on for his Debut, the cat and mouse continued, we came close again on the 58 minute when Rutley broke down the right and put a good cross in for David Bray to put over by inches, the boys continued to play football.

Matty Buckingham came on for Brian Ferris on the left and had an immediate affect by getting down the wing and pulling the ball back for Sam Jackson to hit the corner only for the keeper to make a fine save, from the corner Drewitt could have opened the scouring but put it over by inches.

With Jackson Struggling with a thigh strain Tyrone Connolly came of the bench to play up front with Bray and the partnership nearly payed off with Rutley down the right from Turner to Rutley to cross over for Bray to flick on for Connolly to miss.

Then came the goal from city they broke down the right crossed it over and being out numbered they found the net, with only 10 minutes left and down to 10 men with James Skinner coming of injured the boys dug in deep and still played football getting it down and playing it around, from Dane Moulden played it into George Bartlett who switched it to Turner played it into Drewitt back out to Rutley who took on the city defence got to the bye line crossed it over for Drewitt to score off his shine 1-1 in the 89 minute.

From the start of extra time it was the same as the rest of the game with good passing and movement we could have taken the lead with Rutley running the City defence ragged but found the City keeper in good form.

The boys continued were they left off playing football and again with some strange refereeing decisions Turner got sent off for second bookable offence, down to 9 men we were under the cosh a bit the Bray went down injured with a let challenge form the City number 7 and again the ref did nothing about it so we were down to 8 players and still 1-1 with 10 minutes left City finally scored there second goal then they come thick and fast with conceding another after 2 minutes with City running at the defence conceded another goal 3-1 then 4-1 bu7t the boys did not give up playing football getting the ball down and playing but we gave them their 5th goal with the boys on there knees they never gave up and did them selves proud and the club with a lot of supporters travelling to the game gave the players a standing ovation off the pitch to which they really deserved.
