Wednesday 08 October 2008 - Calne Town (A)

With no game last week, the boys were looking forward to having a game, on a big pitch which suits us; we got the ball down and played football.

Calne nearly opened the scouring in the 10th minute with a well drilled shoot from the edge of the box but Ryan McCarthy was solid behind it and took it well, it was a very even match in the first half up till the 45th minute, when John Turner passed the ball down the right to Josh Rutley to hit a low level cross, David Bray hit the post the Calne defence cleared the ball, only for Rutley to hit a 35 yard shot into the back of the net giving the keeper no chance.

The second half started the same as the last with Bassett on the upper foot playing some good football down the left and right flanks, with Rutley and Nathan Sahers getting good crosses in to the box, with the Calne defence defending well, it wasn't until the 70th minute till Bassett scored their second goal, with George Drewitt working well in midfield with Joe Blackford again Drewitt knocked the ball out to Rutley who with pace took on the Calne defence crossed the ball into Blackford feet who turned and passed to Drewitt to find the back of the net.

From the restart Calne had the wind in their tails and came at us with some fight, with Rutley and Turner both saving shots of the line with Dane Moulden and James Skinner defending well , after being under pressure for a while we managed to break out of defence with a good passing move of the night keeping the ball, playing across the park from left to right again getting the ball out to Matty Buckingham who came on for the injured Blackford broke down the wing to cross into the box for James Skinner to pop up and net the third goal in the 85th minute.

With winning 3-0 Ryan Selby came on for his debut for the last five minutes and could have made it 4 with a good run throw the middle, but a good challenge from the Calne defence kept it at 3.
