Big win for Bassett in the cup

The first round of the cup was played at Ferndale School with all 16 fixtures being played throughout the day. Our first round match versus Purton 'B' was in all fairness a one sided contest. Playing a team one year older and extremely experienced who have been playing together for a long time was too much for them. Bassett came out in confident mood after last weekends' victory were hungry for more. There was too much to include from this weeks performance so I have listed the goal scorers below.

Every player worked extremely hard this week, coming up with very disciplined, controlled performances in spite of the score line. Bassett certainly showed their class and flair, turning on the style with some flowing moves and cool finishing. Although every player played extremely well this week there were three notable performances, those of Ollie Rigby Joe Paish and Joe Viveash. Over the last few weeks I haven't fully expressed how well these lads play, week in, week out. Today they were outstanding, more for their self-control in the first half than anything, holding the defensive line and providing support for the forward players and cover when Scott got himself forward to join in the attack. They make important challenges and saves every week and I would like to highlight the work they do. A strong defence makes a confident, strong attacking side. Very well done lads!!

At half time we decided to change things around, with the defenders playing in midfield and the midfielders playing in defence, just for a change. I must say I was impressed with the level of discipline and awareness shown by everyone.
