All square in opener with Shaw

Our first game of the season was an eagerly awaited encounter with Shaw. The game began with each team carefully testing the other's defence. Both sides had good opportunities to take the lead but it was Bassett who struck first. Scott Walduck tucking the ball home neatly. As the game progressed Bassett looked to be gaining the upper hand, but as quickly as the lead was gained it was gone. Each side battled bravely for dominance in the midfield with chances not taken at both ends, which is how it stayed until half time.

Each side came out for the restart with renewed confidence and flow, but it was the Bassett who took the game to their opponents forcing chances down each wing with some nice overlapping play from Scott Walduck down the left. Bassett's defence of Joe Paish, Ollie Rigby and Scott Walduck were pressed hard for periods of the second half but coped very well with Joe Paish playing a sweepers role behind the other two defenders. The confidence in this defensive line showed with the midfield catching Shaw on the break and culminated with Sam Lowkis rifling a low shot into the left side of the goal. As Bassett's confidence grew they pushed forwards looking for another. Shaw managed to equalise with a few minutes to go with a well-worked move through the middle bypassing the defence which had looked so solid for the most of the game.
