Good away win for Bassett U17A

Bassett travelled to away for their second match of the season against the Blunsdon Colts. The pitch was in poor condition, having been heavily played on over the weekend. This turned out to favour the Bassett side, who quickly attacked down both wings to put pressure on the Blunsdon back four. This paid off almost immediately with Jamie Riddett scoring after five minutes.

The pattern of the game was set. Bassett played a high line enabling both wing backs to play forward, keeping Blunsdon well within their own half. Bassett's persistence was rewarded with a second goal, from Martyn Anderton, after twenty minutes. Blunsdon scored towards the end of the half, when in a rare foray in to Bassett's half of the pitch, they were awarded a penalty for an infringement in the box whilst taking a corner.

The second half was played in much the same vein as the first, with Bassett dominating play. They soon scored when a period of sustained pressure resulted in an own goal from one of the Blunsdon Players. Zhenia Fogel effectively finished the game with a very well taken goal from outside of the 18yd box. Blunsdon did manage to score a second before the end of the game but were unable to press forward after that.

This was the best performance of the season by the Bassett team, with everybody playing extremely well. It is difficult to pick out individual performances, in what was an excellent display of team football, but particularly pleasing was the interaction between Gaz Jones and Tim Gleed, both of whom were outstanding and who completely dominated the left flank.
