Bassett suffer defeat despite Brennan's heroics

Recent games between these two teams have been close affairs and this game proved to be the same. The first half saw both teams struggling to settle in the midfield. Stratton gradually got the upper hand and were only held at bay by an excellent performance from the Bassett back four, who continually frustrated the Stratton strikers with the off side trap.

Stratton's persistence paid of and they were rewarded with the opening goal shortly before the half hour point. Bassett were quick to respond, scoring within one minute of the restart with a well worked goal from Jamie Riddett. Tom James quickly added another before Stratton scored again before the half time whistle to level the score at 2-2.

Stratton scored early in the second half, catching the Bassett team who for the first and only time during the game were slow to clear their area, allowing the Stratton striker to run on to a long ball and score. Bassett reply with an excellent strike by Tom James who brought the ball under control and calmly chipped the Stratton keeper with his right foot.

The game settled down with neither side being able to break down the opposition's defence and looked set a draw until Stratton scored from a corner kick with only minutes to go.

This was a very close game and although we lost the performance of the team was excellent. In particular goalkeeper Joe Brennan was outstanding throughout the match and was complemented by the Stratton Manager on his performance.
