Liden inflict heavy defeat

The home team were on the back foot from the start with Liden pressing forward from the offset. With much of the initial play being played in Bassetts half it was inevitable that Liden would score, which they duly did from a corner kick. Play continued in much the same vane and Bassett found themselves 2-0 after 15 minutes. The home team rallied and started to play themselves back into the game. They should have been awarded a penalty when Tom James broke free and was hauled down by a Liden defender, with a tackle you would normally see on the Rugby field. Unfortunately the Referee judged that it happened outside the box and awarded a free kick. Bassett finished the stronger of the two sides as they went into the half time break.

The second half saw Liden scoring within minutes of the restart. Bassett immediately replied with a well-worked goal from a corner kick. Unfortunately this was the last reply from the home team as Liden dominated the remainder of the game, scoring four more to win the game comfortably. The score could have been much worse but for the excellent performance of goalkeeper Joe Brennan, who pulled off save after save during the last twenty minutes of the game.

The score line doesn't reflect the hard work the home team put in, with note worthy performances from Dan Lowes, standing in as centre back, and Martyn Anderton, who was tireless in the midfield.
