There'll be another day....

After previous competitive matches between these two similarly skilled teams, both sides were prepared for an energetic confrontation. The last head to head resulted in a Wootton Bassett loss.

The game started well with Wootton Bassett dominating the game, spending most of their time in the Croft half. Harry Fitzwilliams, in a return to previous good form, excelled in scoring the first goal after approximately 7 minutes. This buoyed the confidence of the Bassett team, but they knew that complacency would be no use to them.

After a terrific run and cross by Brett Carr it was time again for Basset to score. Jamie Brown had followed up parallel to Brett and was well placed in the centre of Crofts goal mouth; it was a clear shot, well taken. This second goal had taken only 15 minutes of play. More time left for more Bassett goals.

Croft fought hard to score and were bitterly disappointed to have a goal disallowed for offside after 20 minutes of play. They continued to wear the Bassett defence down by persistent attack. Their efforts were rewarded after 30 minutes.

The second half saw Bassett starting with a goal advantage. The supporters on both sides were treated to a roller coaster of emotions with a multitude of Croft shots on goal being very near misses. One shot hugged the cross bar like a hungry python.

With 20 seconds to go before the end of the second half, Croft equalised. They were ecstatic with their success. A wave of depression spread amongst the Bassett Supporters. This meant that 20 minutes of extra time had to be played.

Croft scored again in the first 10 minutes of extra time, with the Bassett side finding it difficult to prevent the onslaught succeeding. After changing ends, Bassett's stamina and motivation was suffering. Croft scored another two goals delivered with the same passion exhibited throughout normal time.

Losing 5 -2 was not the way the game started. It was as if two different games had been played, Crofts game started after Bassett had scored their two goals.
