Under 14's fall just short

The Under 14's just fell short in a good match which saw Bassett control the game to within 1 minute of the interval.

From the kick off WB dominated Barbury. We played with confidence and created chance after chance but unfortunately we didn't manage to turn the opportunities into goals. Only Harry Fitzwilliams found the net with a fine effort after good play from Ben Curtis and Sean McGurk. During this period of pressure Barbury rarely threatened and when they did our well marshalled defence coped well and Tom Hammond in goal did everything required confidently. However, just before the interval a through ball from Barbury resulted with a chase towards the Bassett goal which Dan McCarthey was winning easily. The Barbury striker appeared to push Dan in the back, he fell and Barbury equalised.

After the interval the heat got to all the players and the game looked to be drifting to a 1 – 1 draw. Needless to say it didn't. With 10 minutes remaining a good ball played in between Dan Mac & Chris Edwards allowed Barbury in. A good shot gave Tom Hammond no chance and in effect gave Barbury the points. We pushed on and with that the extra space at the back gave Barbury the chance to gain a 3rd goal in similar circumstances with practically the last kick.

This was a tough result for our boys to take but on reflection we didn't play well enough for the whole game.
