Bassett save their best for the cup

In what proved to be a very entertaining game Bassett U14 turned in one of their best performances for a long while to win this League Cup fixture. Things started well for the home side with the award of a free kick after 5 minutes. Shaun Terry's kick found Anson Lewis in front of goal and his well taken header got Bassett off to a good start. Philip Roberts was unlucky not to increase Bassett's score line after 12 minutes when his shot missed the target following an excellent through pass from Neil Waterhouse. No further goals in the first half although some good football was provided by both teams although Bassett always had the slight edge and any attack on the Bassett goal was ably handled by Martin Jefferies, who, on his showing of late, must surely be one of the best keepers in the league at this level.

Shortly after the start of the second half Neil Waterhouse was brought down inside the penalty area and the resultant spot kick was taken by Shaun Terry who sent the keeper the wrong way, was scored to give Bassett a comfortable lead. Ten minutes later Kevin Pocock put the game beyond doubt when he scored to give the U14's a well deserved victory and just reward for a good team effort and good defensive work from Sam Fusco, Ben Smith, Chris Mills and Philip Penning.
