Bassett hoping potential and pedigree make for a potent attack

Wednesday 2nd July 2025

Royal Wootton Bassett Town will enter the 2025-26 season with potential and pedigree up front after new manager Jonny Aitkenhead secured the signatures of two exciting young forwards and an experienced Hellenic League campaigner, all of who know where the net is.

The Bassett boss has signed young hotshots Kye Williams and Ben Cleary, both of who led the scoring with more than 20 goals in the Wiltshire League Premier Division for Kintbury Rangers and Letcombe respectively.

Both players will be getting their first taste of step five football where they will look to continue to be among the goals at a higher level.

Helping them get to grips with the step up - and also aiming to again be among the goals - is the experienced TJ Bohane who returns to Bassett after four years away. A player who leads by example, Bohane is also set to serve as vice captain.

Profiles of the players are available below.

All three players are available to sponsor for the 2025-26 season for just £50. If you are interested in sponsoring any of our Men's First Team players, please contact Chairman Paul Gerrish (paul.gerrish@rwbtfc.co.uk; 07946 629483) or Head of Men's Section Rab MacLeod (robert.macleod@rwbtfc.co.uk; 07980 876176).

TJ Bohane (Forward)

Bohane is a vastly experienced centre forward who returns to Bassett this season. An unselfish, hard-working player who is strong in the air and an assured finisher, Bohane has enjoyed a prolific career.

After breaking into senior football with Shrivenham, he has spent most of his career with Highworth Town, playing a key role in their run to the 2014-15 FA Vase semi final, while also having spells in the Southern League with Swindon Supermarine and Shortwood United. Bohane enjoyed significant success in two seasons with Bracknell Town, scoring 78 times as they finished as Hellenic League Premier Division runners-up in 2016-17 and 2017-18. He then joined Bassett, scoring 37 goals across three seasons, including 20 in 2018-19. Bohane has been playing for Cricklade Town over the past couple of years, guiding their Veterans team to consecutive league titles. However he is now back for another crack at step five football.

Ben Cleary (Forward)

Cleary is a promising young striker who joins Bassett this season from last season's Wiltshire League Premier Division runners-up Letcombe. A player who has scored at all levels he has played at so far, Cleary will be looking to make his mark at step five.

He finished as Letcombe's leading scorer – and the third top scorer in the Wiltshire League - last season as he netted 28 times in 38 games. Prior to joining Letcombe, Cleary featured for Swindon Supermarine Development. He scored eight times in 13 games as Supermarine won Hellenic League Division Two South in 2022-23 before registering 13 times in 22 appearances a season later.

Kye Williams (Forward)

Joining Bassett this season as he gets his first taste of step five football, Williams is a young centre forward who has enjoyed a prolific start to his career.

Williams spent the last couple of seasons at Kintbury Rangers and was their leading scorer with 20 goals in 30 games as Rangers won the 2024-25 Wiltshire League Premier Division title. Prior to Kintbury, Williams played at college in the United States. Featuring for the Harford Fighting Owls from 2020 to 2022, he registered 38 goals and 26 assists in 48 appearances. His performances in 2021 led to him being named a Second Team National Junior College Athletics Asociation Division I All-American.
