Girls’ Section Review: Five star Under 15s back with a bang

Saturday 31st October 2026

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 15 Girls secured an excellent 5–0 away victory against Future of Football Lakers as they returned to action, despite missing several players due to the school holidays.

The reduced squad provided opportunities for players to step up and take on different positions.

Bassett started brightly, moving the ball well, winning the midfield battle and creating early chances. Poppy was unlucky not to score in the opening ten minutes when a goal-bound effort struck her and went over the bar.

The breakthrough came in the 20th minute following excellent play down the right, with Eryn unselfishly setting up Ava to finish confidently into the bottom corner. Seven minutes later, Ava added her second after Sienna's dangerous corner caused problems for the goalkeeper.

Ava completed her first-half hat-trick shortly afterwards, finishing brilliantly into the top corner following another assist from Maya.

Bassett continued to play some excellent football after the break, with Izzy moving into midfield and the team linking up well through some impressive one-twos. Although there were further chances, decision-making in front of goal prevented the scoreline from becoming even more convincing.

Ava grabbed her fourth in the 56th minute after Lily L, playing in a new number 10 role, threaded through a lovely pass. Ava then turned provider, producing excellent skill on the byline before setting up Eryn to finish from close range and make it five.

It was a comfortable morning for the defensive line, who helped secure a clean sheet. It was also great to see Skye return following injury.

Izzy received the opposition's Player of the Match award, while Ava and Ruby were recognised as Bassett's Players of the Match.

The team now looked ahead to another home league fixture against Ashton Keynes next week.

The Under 14s, meanwhile, suffered a 1–3 defeat against league leaders FC Abbey Meads Blue, despite a fantastic start and a determined performance throughout.

Bassett started brilliantly, playing confident attacking football and putting the visitors under serious pressure. Their efforts were rewarded when Christina produced a fantastic battling run before picking out Gracie, who calmly finished to give Bassett a deserved 1–0 lead.

Hollie made several excellent saves to maintain the advantage, while the girls continued to create chances. They even found the net again, but unfortunately the goal was ruled offside.

Abbey Meads took advantage of the momentum shift, scoring twice to turn the game around before half-time.

Despite the setback, Bassett remained firmly in the contest.

Georgia stepped into goal for the second half as the girls continued to battle against a strong Abbeymeads side. Tia and Lauren both picked up slight knocks but showed great determination to return to the action. Tia later took over in goal, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to the team as Bassett pushed for an equaliser. However, the visitors added a third goal to seal the result.

Jess was named Player of the Match for her outstanding work rate, constant running and excellent defending. She made several important tackles, never stopped battling and was a real asset to the team.

Although the result was disappointing, there were plenty of positives, particularly the excellent start and the effort shown by the whole squad. The girls demonstrated great teamwork and determination against the league leaders.

A big thank you went to all the Bassett supporters for their continued support.

The team now looked ahead to next week's away cup fixture against Malmesbury Youth, determined to bounce back and build on the positives from this performance.
