Purton Reach Amateur Cup Divisional Final and Concede Only One Goal in Process

The Evening Advertiser, Monday 31st October 1949

Having administered the K.O. to Westbury United, Radstock Town, Paulton Rovers and Wootton Bassett – and conceding but one goal (to Paulton) in the process, Purton have earned the right to meet Frome Town (conquerors of the Vics) at the Red House next Saturday, and it should be a game well worth seeing.

Wootton Bassett, who had beaten two Western League sides on their own ground, put up a spirited fight against Purton on Saturday, and only a goal down at the interval, looked capable of bringing off a surprise, but Purton dictated the course of the game hereafter and ran out winners by three clear goals.

Fished missed a couple of "sitters" before putting Purton in the lead, and the second half goals, scored within a period of ten minutes, came from Hobbs and Bryn Miles (penalty).

Wootton Bassett played pluckily till the end and two shot brought out the best in Hill, who was brilliant in goal.
