Derby delight as Development end on a high

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development ended their Wiltshire League Premier Division on a high - and enhanced their chances of a top five finish - as they triumphed 3-1 away at Malmesbury Victoria Development in a local derby at the Flying Monk Ground.

Two goals from Mani Mesas plus one from Flynn Walters did the damage for Bassett, with Beau Hicks scoring Malmesbury's lone reply as Mark Simpkins' tam completed a league double over their near neighbours having won 4-1 back in October at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground.

Bassett still sit fifth in the table as they finish another strong season with a winning record of 15 wins, one draw and 14 defeats.

And the result means Melksham Town Reserves must beat Trowbridge Town in their final fixture if they are to finish above Bassett.

Trowbridge could climb above Bassett too, though the Bees need seven points from their final four games to achieve that. Kingsdown, meanwhile, need eight points from their five remaining matches.

Unless there are massive swings in goal difference, Bassett are now guaranteed to finish above Blunsdon and Shrivenham.
