U13 Blues win in style

Bassett faced a tough looking away game against table topping Malmesbury who had won their opening four matches of the season. A great team performance showed that those concerns were unfounded with a thumping 10-1 victory.

The opening 20 minutes were a very tight affair with Mamesbury having an early goal disallowed before taking the lead with a strong strike. The lead was however short lived as Bassett hit straight back with Alex Greenouff dispossessing the Malmesbury keeper and scoring into an open net.

There was a lengthy delay as a Malmesbury player required treatment after a robust challenge from Ollie Maslen created some discussion. Maslen was replaced by Jasper Bianco and the match continued.

Following this lengthy delay Malmesbury were unable to regain their composure and Bassett began to control the game. Alex Greenouff broke free down the right and his cross was expertly converted by Charlie Booker. Alex Greenouff scored his second with an excellent finish from a Conner Isles trademark long throw to make the score 3-1 at half time.

Whilst Bassett were on top, few would have predicted the avalanche of goals that Bassett were to produce in the second half.

Alex Greenouff broke free of the defence and rifled the ball past the goalkeeper for his fourth hattrick in four games. From this point Bassett were completely dominant and, rather than whether Bassett would win, it was more how many could they score.

Harry Scott added a fifth, finding space on the right he drove the ball high past the 'keeper in spectacular fashion. Alex Greenouff's shot from range was saved but Booker made no mistake with the rebound. A long Alex Greenouff throw-in was headed home by Booker to complete his hattrick shortly after.

Amir Sakiru got himself on the scoresheet with a fine drive from just inside the box before the effervescent Stanley Lockley capped a mesmeric run with a fine finish to score Bassetts ninth.

Booker scored his fourth goal to cap a remarkable second half performance that saw Bassett finish 10-1 winners.

In a heated match Bassett kept their cool and allowed their excellent football to do the talking. Based on Malmesbury's strong winning record in their opening games Bassett will be confident that they can continue to climb the table.

Man of the match were Henry Greenouff and Charlie Booker
