Spirited RWBTFC lose away

It has been a tough start to Division 2 for Bassett's Under 13 Blues, and a strong comeback in the second half was ultimately not enough as Bassett lost a competitive match 5-3 away to Highworth Town Juniors.

Bassett got off to a slow start conceding an early goal. A low Highworth cross was turned in from close range giving 'keeper Charlie no chance. Following this early setback Bassett pushed for an equaliser with both Alex and Charlie testing the 'keeper from close range. The equaliser came shortly after, Toby found Alex with a cross field ball from which he was able to power toward goal and force the ball under the Highworth keeper

The tide turned again and the back 3 of Ewan, Henry and Jasper (replaced by Ollie) were forced to work hard to prevent Highworth regaining the lead. Unfortunately Highworth were able to net twice at the end of the half, the first following an excellent save from Charlie before a second shortly before half time.

Bassett rode their luck for the opening 10 minutes of the second half before an Alex initial shot fell to a predatory Charlie who made no mistake from close range. Shortly after Aleks drew Bassett level with a beautiful left-footed shot from distance.

The buoyant away fans would have hoped Bassett could have pushed for victory but it was not to be, a rifled shot from distance gave Charlie no chance and a defensive mix up resulted in a quick Highworth 5th goal and left Bassett with insufficient time to push for an equaliser.

If Bassett continue their improvement from the first match there is much cause for optimism. The team fought hard and were close to forcing a result from a talented Highworth Youth

Next up is a home match against Wroughton Youth Broncos
