Birthday Delight for U13 Manager

Bassett celebrated Manager Brandon Francis' birthday with a thumping 4-1 home win against Wroughton Youth FC U13 Broncos.

After a slow start to the season Bassett u13 Blues needed to get back to winning ways and they did this with some style. In reality the 3-goal winning margin could have been far greater had it not been for hitting the post and bar a total of 4 times and some profligacy in front of goal.

Bassett were the dominant force in the first half creating numerous chances. Charlie Booker thought he had put Bassett in front following the 'keepers save from a ferocious Aleks Goralczyk shot only to be ruled offside. Bassett continued to press with Alex Greenouff forcing a save from the keeper and then hitting the post shortly after. Stan Lockley created himself an excellent opportunity which just missed the goal and Toby Buck selflessly squared an excellent move that nearly unlocked the Bronco's defence. Finally before half time Alex Greenouff hit the bar from close range and Lockley again went close

Few could believe that the score remained level at half time as Broncos failed to create any clear cut chances.

When Lockley again went close early in the second half Bassett must have been starting to wonder if it was not going to be their day.

That all changed with the opening goal. Alex Greenouff intercepted a ball over the Broncos defence and was able to chip the keeper before passing into an open net. A neat exchange between Goralczyk and Alex Greenouff saw another good opportunity missed shortly after. The crucial second goal came from a well worked corner which was bundled in from close range.

Settled by the two goals Bassett looked like the scoring would continue. Alex Greenouff completed his hattrick after dispossessing the defender and finishing from close range.

Kyle Lillis then completed the scoring with a predatory finish after Booker forced the keeper into a save.

Broncos pushed to get themselves back into the game and in the last 5 minutes managed to pull one back with a late penalty but in reality the result was not in doubt and an excellent Charlie Davies late save avoided any last minute nerves.

The Bassett Manager and coaching staff will be very pleased with this win. The Bassett defence of Henry Greenouff, Ollie Maslen and Ewan McGeachie were rarely troubled

The midfield were outstanding with Aleks Goralczyk, Jude Turnbull, Toby Buck, Stan Lockley, Theo Box and Jasper Bianco dominating individual battles all morning and feeding plentiful chances to the strikers

Up front Alex Greenouff and Charlie Booker created problems all game and Kyle Lillis was clinical with his late finish.

MOTM match was Stanley Lockley with a masterful midfield performance.
