Bassett win physical battle at Marlborough Town

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development started the afternoon in third place following an unbeaten start to the season that had seen them win five of their six opening fixtures, whilst opponents Marlborough Town had hit a bit of a bad patch, losing their last three games but conscious that they had beaten their opponents in the corresponding fixture last season during a run of four wins just prior to the shutters coming down on the 2019-20 Season. There was to be no repeat this season as the visitors continued their good start to the season. Tyler Sheppard put them ahead with a first half penalty and it remained 1-0 at the break. Visitors Royal Wootton Bassett Town were then reduced to ten men just after half time when George Ford was sent off for a second yellow card. Despite the numerical disadvantage the visitors ensured Marlborough were unable to get back into the game, in what was a physical battle all afternoon, and a second from Bailey Gallagher five minutes from time made certain of the three points. The win lifted Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development into second place, three points behind Pewsey but with two games in hand, whilst Marlborough dropped a place to 15th.
