09 Sep 2012 - Stratton Juniors Orange (H)

WOOTTON BASSET YELLOWS V STRATTON SEPT 9 2012. We started the game keen and eager. We were strong from the whistle. Upfront the passing between, Kai, Sid, Callum and Raisham was controlled and precise giving Stratton lots to do. They quickly realised their defence had to be tight and it was. Battling ensued with Callum and his opponent, there was little love lost between these two as they locked horns numerous times. Even the experienced ref had to sternly say ‘Boys Boys' to let them know he had his eye on them! Raisham showed us some great tackling skills, taking the ball quickly giving Stratton the run around. Plenty of passes and shots resulted from this but to no avail. Stratton fought back and in the first half Lewis was on fantastic form in goal, reading the position of the attackers and saving every shot. Sid made some enthusiastic runs with some lengthy shots when able, again to no avail. Korben was like a rabbit proof fence at the back, but also coming forward when needed. Liam played the game well, closing down the opposition as they tried to charge through. Robbie made some great passes and began to develop an awareness of what was needed of him. Half time 0 – 0 The second half saw much of the same, however sometimes our head dropped, we disagreed with decisions being made and started to loose concentration and form. As a result Stratton went one up. We had a fight on our hands. A fight it was. Raisham was taken down and winded. Korben ended up taking a run and shot bootless! Stratton got their second and the game got tougher still. We got sloppy. Within a few minutes we were 3-0 down. This was not the result we wanted for our first game. We had a run, we broke free, with sheer determination on their faces, Callum passed to Raisham, who nudged it over to Kai. A lovely goal. 3-1 Callum wanted more of the same, making a run he was dragged down. With no hesitation he was handed a free kick. He lined the ball up. Kai was on standby to the left. He made his decision. He took a shot. He bent it better than Beckham straight over the goalie and in to the net. 3-2. Though we made valiant attempts to equalize until the bitter end, we just ran out of time, however regardless of the score, this was a fantastic start to the season.
