16 Sep 2012 - Fairford Town Youth (A)

Immediately we were heading towards the goalie with a purpose. Robbie had this run under control. He took the shot, the goalie was focused and saved it, but fumbled the ball, dropping it with no defenders in the area – we should have followed this ball up!! On went the game and we had shot after shot and run after run. We were smaller in stature but bigger in play. Raisham had shots, Kai had shots – the crossbar shuddered with one near miss. Callum who had been pushed midfield to help in defence due to Korbens absence ran like Forest! Up and down, shooting passing tackling. Nav and Liam teamed well to close down players and get the ball away from Sid who had taken on the roll of Goalie for the first half. If they broke through Sid was on his usual form and blocked it any which way he could. Raisham had the ball, he weaved past a couple then mid flight was taken down. Stretchered off, this could be trouble. A man down!! Bravely Raisham returned after five minutes convalescing. Robbie took another run along the line, shooting from the right, saved but rebounded out. Callum was not going to let this one go. Bang ! Goal ! 1-0 Fairford charged towards the goal. Equalising just before the half time whistle! 1-1 HALF TIME With Sid wanting to come out of goal, Liam rose to the challenge. Robbie got his teeth in to this half, tackling hard and winning balls. Kai, Callum and Raisham played some great football, passing decisively. Liam made some confident saves and read the game well. However the second half changed the game. Whilst we still played a good game Lilli the Lioness of Faiford, made some great decisions, followed the ball down the pitch, took her time and scored two goals. Our defence lost form and our heads began to bow! 1-3 Callum took Lilli out in an attempt to gain the ball. A penalty was given. The wall was set, and Raisham saved the day! The shot deflected from his shoulder. Lilli took yet another chance which proved a good one. Even Hart could not have stopped it! 1-4 We now looked fierce and annoyed! We played with revenge in mind. However, time was no longer on our side. Again the score did not reflect our play. A good try with an unfortunate result.
